Halo: Combat Evolved

It's easy to let the fact that this game just redefined the FPS genre overshadow how much of it is an unabashed love letter to pulpy Sci-Fi from top to tip. The ring worlds, the alien civilizations, the super soldier programs and exo-suits, with a healthy sprinkling of "The Last of His Kind" in the mix made sure there was a little something for all fans of nerdy things.
Master Chief himself is kind of a defining stoic character, and the fact that the most he ever speaks is to an AI in his own head is telling. The aesthetics here are second-to-none, the music is iconic on the level of Star Wars, and the game is STILL fun today.
